What Was in It for Me? – Fragments Series

A powerful black and white piece that explores the body through fragmented form, shadow, and space. The piece captures both presence and absence, highlighting the push and pull between what is given and what is withheld.

The title ‘What Was in It for Me?’ comes from CMAT’s ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’, reflecting the exhaustion of constantly performing for others’ expectations. It raises the question of self-worth when every gesture, nurture, beauty, intimacy, feels demanded rather than freely chosen. This work embodies that quiet defiance, a body shown yet unapologetically its own.
